Tilt

Nestled just off of Brighton’s Fiveways in the north of the city sits Tilt, a homely café brimming with personality. Here you’ll find the buzz of the neighbourhood’s young families filling the workbench-like tables, surrounded by cookery books and the vibrant local artworks which adorn the walls. Away from the tourist horde, this special little spot is quintessentially Brighton, and manages it all without the slightest bit of pretence.

The coffee is deep and chocolaty, with rich praline notes and a hint of black tea – perfect for the cooler months – while a wholesome, largely vegetarian menu accompanies the hot drinks. Curated in-house by chef Helen and her team in an open kitchen, the generous food offering includes both detailed brunch and lunch menus, with plenty of salads, soups, quiches, and snacks to each make sure visitors won’t go hungry.

Be sure to check them out on social media prior to a visit – you may be lucky enough to stumble across one of the neighbourhood’s artisan pop ups and events which regularly take place in the café.
